Xiamen Airlines Initiates 'Green Future' Ecological Protection Action

On April 22, 2024, on the occasion of the 55th World Earth Day, Xiamen Airlines launched its branded public welfare program, the "Green Future" ecological protection action, in the hope of taking a more proactive approach to increasing plant growth and sequestering carbon, and helping China fulfill its international commitments and achieve the "carbon peaking and carbon neutrality" goal through actions. At the same time, the program was bound up with Xiamen Airlines' green account, to share the fruits of public welfare with passengers and invite more people to build a green future together.

Xiamen Airlines has long been establishing and practicing the concept that "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets", and has remained committed to fulfilling the concept of green development through a variety of initiatives, including energy saving and emission reduction, scientific and technological innovation, environmental protection and plastic reduction, in order to help achieve the goals of the global climate action. In 2024, Xiamen Airlines and the China Greening Foundation will be working closely together on the "One Million Forests Program", and implement the "Green Future" ecological protection action. This is an important commitment and strong fulfillment of Xiamen Airlines' commitment as the first airline to join the "China Action of Planting Trillion Trees Initiative", and a clear manifestation of its active social responsibility.

To propel ecological protection, Xiamen Airlines will focus its efforts in the following directions: First, carry out forest conservation, support the planting of the Tengger Desert Border Forest and the Liaoning Carbon Sink Afforestation Project, set up the "Xiamen Airlines Public Welfare Forest", and utilize scientific means of planting and caring for seedlings, so as to restore the forests and green plantings; Second, revitalize the countryside, develop the project site and surrounding towns and towns in combination with actual conditions, and give full play to its own advantages to help the local area form a high-quality endogenous driving force; Third, develop ecological culture and tourism, as well as ecological restoration and popularization of science and culture and tourism projects, and integrate every aspect of ecological conservation into its services and products, so as to convince travelers of the importance of ecological conservation during travel.

Meanwhile, Xiamen Airlines has upgraded its green account benefits. Passengers can apply to join the first "green account" in civil aviation through official channels such as Xiamen Airlines APP and mini programs, participate in green and low-carbon flight tasks such as traveling light, paperless check-in, and environmentally friendly meals, and exchange the accumulated "green energy" for sapling planting to obtain electronic certificates issued by the China Greening Foundation. It is understood that at the first phase of Xiamen Airlines' green account, green energy can be exchanged for tree species such as hedysarum scoparium, Haloxylon ammodendron, Pinus koraiensis, Juglans mandshurica, Fraxinus mandshurica, and Phellodendron amurense. Based on the advantages of Xiamen Airlines' green account in the early stage and a certain user base, it better guides passengers to travel green, reduce their carbon footprint, and participate in the Beautiful China reforestation initiative.
