With this year’s national college- and senior-high entrance examinations behind them, students have officially entered their summer break, and the curtain has risen on the peak summer travel season. During the period, Xiamen Airlines intends to operate more than 40,000 flights (each round-trip counted as two flights). Of these, 2,878 flights will be flown on newly opened routes and 1,630 flights on frequency increases, all dedicated to its mission of “helping more people travel the world” while providing passengers with safe, high-quality, and efficient travel services.

Holding the safety baseline and expanding summer hot-spot markets

This summer, Xiamen Airlines’ newly launched domestic routes focus on linking its main bases - Xiamen and Hangzhou - with seasonal, cooler-weather destinations in Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia. The 24 new routes include: Hangzhou, Shanghai, Changsha, and Xiamen (via Nanjing) to Hailar; Xiamen and Fuzhou direct to Urumqi; Xiamen, Hangzhou, Beijing and Tianjin direct to Xining.

At the same time, Xiamen Airlines is increasing frequencies on 11 popular leisure routes from its main hubs: Xiamen and Fuzhou to Xishuangbanna; Hangzhou and Changsha to Hohhot; and Hangzhou to Dalian, Kunming and Beihai. In addition, the carrier has introduced 14 market-responsive routes, including Xiamen to Hefei and Wuhan, Quanzhou to Zhengzhou, Nanjing, Haikou, Tianjin, and Wuhan.

On international routes, Xiamen Airlines plans to launch the new Tianjin - Tokyo Haneda service, add Xiamen - Singapore and Xiamen - Kuala Lumpur flights, and increase frequencies on the Xiamen - Amsterdam, Xiamen - Doha, Xiamen - Tokyo Narita and Hangzhou - Osaka routes.

With flights operating at sustained high volumes throughout the summer travel period , and compounded by complex weather, especially thunderstorms, typhoons and extreme heat, Xiamen Airlines has convened multiple cross-departmental coordination meetings to resolve the most challenging summer-operation issues. At the same time, the carrier has conducted thorough assessments of aircraft condition, crew reserves and contingency-response capabilities, all to safeguard safe summer operations.

Upgrading services for unique summer-holiday experience

During the summer peak, as growing numbers of unaccompanied minors and first-time passengers take to the skies, Xiamen Airlines is rolling out its “unaccompanied express” service, opening a dedicated security lane for domestic remote-stand departures during the morning rush, cutting an average of 15 minutes off each unaccompanied passenger’s waiting time, while offering a separate check-in zone and one-to-one gate escort from counter to aircraft. In addition, Xiamen Airlines provides first-time passengers with end-to-end staff guidance from check-in counter to boarding gate, together with specially prepared first-flight envelopes and wristbands to ensure a smooth journey.

Equally indispensable during summer travel is the protection of passengers’ baggage. From 1 July, the carrier is also launching a “Baggage Care Counter” at Xiamen Hub, offering comprehensive protection for passengers travelling with valuable instruments, fragile items, or oversized baggage. The service supplies free anti-shock frames and waterproof protective covers, with optional baggage insurance available on request. At the same time, oversized and fragile baggage will be assigned dedicated staff for end-to-end escort, ensuring that each piece receives its guardian from check-in to the carousel.

Once on board, passengers on Xiamen Airlines’ Beijing-, Shanghai-, Guangzhou- and Shenzhen-bound flights departing from Xiamen, Fuzhou or Hangzhou will be served the exclusive “Morning Dew” welcome drink, and Anxi Tieguanyin tea - sourced from Chateau XiamenAir - has been added to the tea menu in every cabin. At the same time, Chef XiamenAir has added two new flavors to its popular à-la-carte hit “Hao Xia Bao” (Tasty Burger): the Super Beef Tasty Burger and the Fresh Prawn Tasty Burger. In collaboration with Michelin one-star restaurant Xian Cheng, the airline has also introduced Satay Abalone Shrimp Instant Noodles and Anxi Tieguanyin Cold-Brew Tea Jelly, further enriching the in-flight dining experience.

With family and student travel surging this summer, Xiamen Airlines is launching a fleet-wide, in-flight scavenger hunt - Xiaoman’s Meet-Up Plan- built around its sustainability icon “My Family.” Travelers simply collect the Sustainable Family stamps on board; once they’ve gathered the required number, they can trade them in for mystery blind-box gifts, turning the flight into a fun-filled stretch of the journey.
