Airline Profile
Xiamen Airlines, established in 1984, is headquartered in Xiamen, a coastal city in southeastern China’s Fujian Province. It is the first airline in China to operate under the modern enterprise system. Xiamen Airlines ranks among the top airlines in China in terms of global airline financial ratings. During his tenure as the Standing Deputy Mayor of Xiamen, General Secretary Xi Jinping personally participated in the formation and early stages of Xiamen Airlines. During his visit to the United States in 2015, Xi boarded a Boeing 787 aircraft that was about to be delivered to Xiamen Airlines and praised it as a “microcosm of China's aviation industry development.”
Currently, Xiamen Airlines has a fleet of 211 aircraft and operates over 400 domestic and international routes. It serves nearly 40 million passengers annually, and more than 23 million people have joined its frequent flyer program. Among the more than 270 member airlines of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Xiamen Airlines ranks among the top 30 in terms of revenue and among the top 13 in terms of passenger turnover.
Over the years, Xiamen Airlines has made relentless efforts to ensure aviation safety and improve service quality. It has accumulated over 8 million hours of safe flight operations and has been voted by Chinese passengers as the “Best Airline” for nine consecutive years. In March 2016, Xiamen Airlines was honored with the second China Quality Award, becoming the first enterprise in the Chinese service industry to receive this prestigious recognition and the only airline in China to win this award in civil aviation. Since participating in the evaluation in 2020, Xiamen Airlines has won the “Five-star International Airline” award from APEX, a world-renowned airline service evaluation organization, for three consecutive years. In 2022 and 2023, it even won the “World Class” award twice, making it the first Chinese airline to enter the “Top Eight in the World.” In 2022, the Guidelines for the Promotion of Quality Management Culture and Mechanism Support Services, compiled by Xiamen Airlines, received national-level certification, officially elevating the Xiamen Airlines standard to a national standard.
While pursuing its own development, Xiamen Airlines actively engages in corporate social responsibility by participating in education poverty alleviation, promoting volunteer services, advocating for energy conservation and emission reduction, and contributing to environmental protection. It actively participates in public welfare activities. On February 15, 2017, Xiamen Airlines became the first airline to sign an agreement with the United Nations at the UN headquarters in New York to collaborate on the Sustainable Development Goals, making it a global pioneer in such cooperation. In September 2020, the Party Committee of Xiamen Airlines was awarded two top collective honors: the National Advanced Collective in the Fight against the COVID-19 Pandemic and the National Advanced Grassroots Party Organization.
Building on a new starting point, Xiamen Airlines is poised to lead the way into a new future. While maintaining its existing strengths, Xiamen Airlines will continue to strive for excellence, strength, and growth. It will focus on transformation, innovation, and expanding the service chain of air travel. Xiamen Airlines aims to broaden its customer base, accelerate the expansion of its route network, and provide customers with exceptional and delightful travel experiences. It is committed to achieving the vision of “excellent performance and steady progress.”
