(2) Musical Instruments
Xiamen Airlines provides three ways for passengers carrying musical instruments:
1、As Unchecked Baggage
①Small musical instruments (including instrument cases) with total linear dimensions (length + width + height) not exceeding 115 cm and a weight not exceeding 8 kg may be carried into the cabin as unchecked baggage.
②Musical instruments that are brought into the cabin should comply with Xiamen Airlines requirements on the packaging, weight, and quantity of Unchecked baggage. If the musical instruments exceed the above-mentioned regulations and are to be brought into the cabin, they should be handled in accordance with the regulations for Seated baggage.
③All musical instruments brought into the cabin should be under the care of the passenger. Musical instrument must be securely placed in a shock-proof and pressure-resistant case so that it can be stored side-upright if necessary.
2、As Checked Baggage
①For musical instruments transported as checked baggage, their weight and piece count count toward the free baggage allowance. Any excess is subject to baggage fees.
②Musical Instruments to be carried as checked-in baggage shall meet Xiamen Airlines requirements on volume and weight of checked baggage and must be securely placed in shock-proof and pressure-resistant relevant instrument cases. Xiamen Airlines shall be liable for carriage according to general checked baggage liability limit. Xiamen Airlines may refuse to carry goods that cannot be packed as required.
3、As Seated Baggage
①Passengers can purchase a seat for a musical instrument that needs to be brought into the cabin, name Seated Baggage.
②Seated Baggage can be placed on the cabin seat or on the floor in front of the seat. A single cabin seat can accommodate baggage of no more than 40*45*100 cm, and the floor in front of the seat can accommodate baggage of no more than 25*45*140 cm, and the baggage weight may not be more than 72 kg.
③Passengers should purchase seats for the musical instrument according to the actual number of seats they need. One piece of seated baggage can occupy no more than 3 seats, and the maximum measurement of the seated instrument should not be more than 40×60×140 cm.
FAQ
Q1: Are small musical instruments included into unchecked baggage?
A:Small musical instruments (including instrument cases) with total linear dimensions (length + width + height) not exceeding 115 cm and a weight not exceeding 8 kg shall be included in the passenger's unchecked baggage allowance and counted together with other carry-on items. The total number and weight of such items must comply with the provisions on unchecked baggage set forth in the General Conditions of Carriage for Passengers and Baggage of Xiamen Airlines Co., Ltd.
For example, if the instrument is small enough to fit inside your carry-on bag and remains within the applicable limits for unchecked baggage (e.g., a flute or ukulele), it will not affect your entitlement to carry other personal items.
Q2: (a measurement of more than 20*40*55 cm, and less than 25*35*95 cm) If the instrument is 25*45*55 cm, with its width exceeding the 35 limit, how will this be classified?
A: 25*35* 95 cm is the maximum length that each side can accommodate. Any side exceeding the maximum length shall be excluded from this range and need to be carried as checked-in baggage.
Q3: How do I know how many seats I need to buy for my Seated Baggage?
A: Please refer to the images below for a better understanding of the specific placement standards and positions of musical instruments of different sizes.

As shown in Image 1, a single cabin seat can accommodate baggage of no more than 40*45*100 cm, and the floor in front of the seat can accommodate baggage of no more than 25*45*140 cm. If any side of the baggage is over the above limit, more seats should be purchased.
Case 1: For a violin (including its case) with 18*34*80 cm measurement and a volume within a single seat accommodating range, one seat is enough for the Seated Baggage (Image 2).

Case 2: For a cello (including its case) with a measurement of 24*50*134 cm can only be placed on the floor in front of the seat because its longest side is 100 cm larger than the limit. However, its volume exceeds the accommodated baggage volume in front of the seat (25*45*140 cm), so two seats need to be purchased (Image 3).

Note: For baggage that needs to be placed on the floor in front of the seat, the limits for the shortest and longest sides of the seat remain unchanged as seat interval and seat height are fixed. When the shortest side exceeds 25 cm, the baggage will not be able to be placed on the cabin floor, and when the longest side exceeds 140 cm, the baggage will not be allowed to enter the cabin as Seated Baggage.
The maximum measurement of Seated Baggage in the cabin is 40*60*140 cm, which should occupy three seats.

(3)Precision instruments
Precision instruments refer to high-precision, high-sensitivity equipment and devices used for precise measurement, experimentation, detection, analysis, etc., and should usually be transported as cargo. If they are to be transported as checked baggage, they must be approved by the ground handling agent of Xiamen Airlines. The items should be packed in the original packaging or packaging approved by Xiamen Airlines, should not be included in the free baggage allowance, and should be charged as excess baggage. For such baggage, Xiamen Airlines should be liable for carriage in accordance with the general liability limit for checked baggage.
(4)Seat Occupancy Baggage
1. Passengers may purchase a seat for baggage that needs to be carried into the cabin, known as Seat Occupancy Baggage. Seat Occupancy Baggage is available for valuables or fragile items such as musical instruments, religious statues, precision instruments, and electrical appliances, as well as for the transport of human organs for donation.
2. Seat Occupancy Baggage tickets do not include free baggage allowance. The maximum dimensions for baggage accommodated on a single cabin seat are 40×45×100 cm, while baggage placed on the floor in front of the seat must not exceed 25×45×140 cm. The weight of the baggage must not exceed 75 kg. For luggage exceeding the size or weight limits, passengers must purchase seats based on the number of seats occupied. A single piece of Seat Occupancy Baggage may occupy no more than 3 seats, with maximum dimensions not exceeding 40×60×140 cm.
3. Seat Occupancy Baggage must be placed by the window and adjacent to the passenger’s seat. Seat Occupancy Baggage may be placed on the cabin seat or on the floor in front of the seat (excluding partition areas) and must not obstruct or block any emergency or normal exits or aisles in the cabin.
4. If the Seat Occupancy Baggage exceeds the height of the cabin seat, it must be placed in the last two rows of the economy class or the last row of the first or business class, and must not obstruct the “Fasten Seat Belt,” “No Smoking,” or “Exit” signs.
5. Seat Occupancy Baggage must be secured by the passenger and properly fastened using the seat belt or other adequate restraint devices to ensure that it remains secure under all foreseeable normal flight and ground conditions. The packaging or covering must not cause harm to passengers or crew.
(5)Cremated Remains
1. Cremated remains are generally recommended for transport as cargo. If transported as baggage, prior approval from Xiamen Airlines must be obtained.
2. Passengers carrying cremated remains must present a death certificate issued by the health authority and a cremation certificate issued by the funeral authority.
3. If cremated remains are transported as carry-on baggage, they must be placed in a sealed urn or container, enclosed in a wooden case or other sturdy packaging, with the outermost layer packaged as ordinary baggage (e.g., wrapped in cloth). Passengers carrying cremated remains onboard are not permitted to select emergency exit seats. If passengers need to purchase a seat to place the cremation urn, the regulations for Seat Occupancy Baggage shall apply.
4. If cremated remains are transported as checked baggage, they must be placed in a sealed urn or container, enclosed in a wooden case or other sturdy packaging. Xiamen Airlines will assume liability for such baggage under the standard checked baggage liability terms.

1. Acceptance of checked baggage by the passenger without complaint at the time of delivery shall constitute prima facie evidence that the checked baggage has been delivered in good condition and in accordance with the contract of carriage, unless the passenger provides evidence to the contrary.
2. Xiamen Airlines shall not be liable where the destruction, loss or damage to baggage results from the inherent nature, quality or defect of the baggage itself, or is caused by the passenger.
3. Xiamen Airlines shall not be liable if it proves that it has taken all reasonable measures to avoid damage arising from delay in the carriage of checked baggage, or that such measures could not reasonably be taken.
4. Xiamen Airlines shall not be liable for delay, loss or damage to baggage caused by baggage inspection procedures carried out by relevant government authorities, airport management authorities, or security inspection authorities.
5. Xiamen Airlines shall not be liable for damage to baggage caused by items contained therein. If a passenger or their baggage causes injury to any person, or damage to the property of others or to the property of Xiamen Airlines, the passenger shall be liable for all resulting losses and expenses.
6. Important documents and materials, securities, cash, bills, jewelry, precious metals and their products, antiques and calligraphy, samples, or other valuables, fragile or perishable items, prescription drugs that need to be taken regularly, medical certificates, travel documents, and other items that require personal care cannot be checked in as luggage or placed in checked luggage. For the destruction, loss, or damage of the above items placed in checked luggage, Xiamen Airlines will only assume compensation liability as general checked luggage.
7. In case of loss of passengers' luggage, passengers shall submit a objection to Xiamen Airlines or its authorized ground service agent. In case of damage to or contamination of checked baggage, the passenger must report the matter to the carrier (or its agent) and complete a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) before leaving the baggage claim area. Any complaint concerning damage to checked baggage must be made no later than seven (7) days from the date of receipt of the checked baggage. In the event of delay of checked baggage, any complaint must be made no later than twenty-one (21) days from the date on which the checked baggage is placed at the passenger's disposal. Any complaint must be made in writing within the aforesaid time limits; otherwise, no claim may be brought against Xiamen Airlines.
8. In the event of destruction, loss, or damage of checked luggage on Xiamen Airlines flights, Xiamen Airlines will compensate or cover repair costs within the luggage compensation limit according to the value of the lost luggage. The passenger bears the burden of proving the actual value of the loss. Xiamen Airlines' liability for passenger baggage shall be determined in accordance with the limits of liability prescribed by the applicable international conventions to which China is a party at the time of the occurrence.
9. When handling luggage loss compensation, the compensation for temporary living supplies that has been paid shall be deducted from the compensation amount, and the excess luggage fees charged for the compensated luggage shall be refunded.
10. If the compensated lost luggage is found, Xiamen Airlines will notify the passenger as soon as possible. Passengers can reclaim their luggage and return the full compensation, but the temporary living supplies compensation will not be refunded. If it is found that the passenger has fraudulent behavior, Xiamen Airlines has the right to recover the full compensation.
