Half day travel option – Xiamen City Amoy Circular Road (Huandao Road 环岛路 )

Route overview: Xiamen Baicheng – Xiamen University- Amoy Circular Road – Amoy Wu Yuan Bay
Best time to visit: between October and April

Xiamen Baicheng 厦大白城

Xiamen Baicheng is located in South of Island, eastern exit of Xiamen University. Xiamen Baicheng is a natural leisure park. It is integration of beautiful scenery and profound cultural history heritage. Baicheng beach is a beautiful tourist destination, easy to access by public transportation, fresh air and beautiful scenery. Local residents and international tourists enjoy strolling in this area.

Xiamen University 厦门大学 (2hours)

Xiamen University is considered as “one of the most beautiful campuses in China”, a unique mix of Chinese and Western architectural style.
Along the street of the main exit of Xiamen University, lots of seafood restaurants available at reasonable price and high quality, it is a good option to grab lunch or brunch here.

Amoy Circular Road (2 hours)

Amoy Circular Road is located in the southeast of Xiamen, a total length of 31 km. It is regarded as gold coast for 9km between Xiamen university and section Paving coast. Amoy Circular Road is a tourist, sightseeing and entertainment all-in-one green seaside promenade. This green corridor is well-designed configuration of 240,000 square meters of grassland and colorful plants. You may take bus 29 for this route. It is better to lease a bike to travel around in Amoy Circular Road .

Amoy Wu Yuan Bay 五缘湾湿地公园

Xiamen Wuyuan Bay Wetland Park is the largest park in Xiamen, the largest wetland ecological park. Every year in March, a large number of egrets incubate, breed here. It is also an important stopover for migratory birds. According to plan, the park provided wetland ecological reserve, mangrove flora, bird watching Island, Lake recreational area.

One day travel option – Fujian Tulou:

Fujian Tulou is a unique Chinese rammed earth building of the Hakka and other people in the mountainous areas in southwestern Fujian, China. They are mostly built between the 12th to the 20th centuries. Tulou is usually a large enclosed building, rectangular or circular in configuration, with a very thick weight supporting earth wall (up to 6 feet thick) and wooden skeletons, from three to five stores high, housing up to 80 families. These earth buildings usually have only one main gate, guarded by 4-5 inch thick wooden doors reinforced with an outer shell of iron plate. The top level of these earth building have gun holes for defense against bandits. 
Itinerary: 

Take a taxi to the native place of Fujian Tulou---Nanjing County, Zhangzhou. After arrival, proceed to Tianluokeng Tulou cluster, it consists of five tulous with a square "Buyunlou" at the center, surrounded by three rotunda tulous and an oval tulou, forming a pattern of "four dishes and a soup". 

Then visit Yuchanglou, it was built in 1308 Yuan dynasty by Liu family clan. It is one of the oldest and tallest tulou in China. Yuchanglou has a nickname: "zigzag building", because the vertical wooden post structure is not straight and perpendicular, but zigzag left and right. It was built that way due to error on measurement of material length. But in spite of apparent infirmity, this tall tulou stood 700 hundred years of natural elements and social turmoil. Yuchanglou's outer ring is 36 m in diameter, five stores with 50 rooms on each floor. The 25 kitchens on the ground floor at the back half of the circle have private water well for each beside a stove. This is the only tulou in all F ujian with such convenient water supply. 

The next destination is Taxia Village. The small village itself is very dainty, with a stream running through it. There are several round/square/rectangular earth buildings in the village, and a quiet temple on the hill slope.

One Day itinerary in Gulangyu:

Take 20-minute ferry from Xiamen to Gulangyu Island. Generally speaking, travelers depart to Gulangyu from Xiamen by ferryboat. It costs 35CNY to board a ferryboat in Xiamen to Gulangyu three Okada Harbour and is free for the return trip. You could also get an access to the second floor of the ferryboat to view landscape or take photos. 

Gulangyu Island is an island with no motor vehicles, all within walking distance. Note: The ticket of the ferryboat had better be booked in advance online, otherwise you likely end up with waiting for hours before you can board. Route overview in Gulangyu Island:

3 ) Haoyue Park: charming scenery, the Ming-style architecture and seascape Haoyue Park Hill embraced hue, constituting a natural picture 
4 ) Xiamen Aquarium: largest aquarium in China exhibits most varieties of fish. In addition, you have the chance to see the world’s largest specimens of sperm whales. 
5 ) Organ Museum: largest organ museum in the world 
6 ) Trinity Church: modern architecture. The State Council announced it as “national culture heritage”

Two days travel option – Gulangyu Island

1st Day itinerary: 
Take 20-minute ferry from Xiamen to Gulangyu Island. Generally speaking, travelers depart to Gulangyu from Xiamen by ferryboat. 2nd Day itinerary:
Miss Zhao’s Shop (Gulangyu shop) (0.5 hour) 1min walk  Chen tea cans Western goods shop (shop promenade) (0.5 hour)  Tzengtsu (4 hours)
 

1) Miss Zhao’s Shop: this is a classic traditional bakery; they sell very tasty pies. Souvenirs such as pies and tea are available in the shop. 
2) Chen Tea cans shop: shop which is specialized in selling different flavors of sea with lovely packaging. Tourists usually buy them as souvenirs. 
You may take a ferry back to Xiamen. In Xiamen city, it is better to take public transport which is cheap and convenient. To go to Tzengtsu, taking a taxi is a good option, which takes about a half hour to arrive and costs around 22 RMB. 
3) Tzengtsu: specialty shops, bars, full of art sensation here. You are recommended to stay here for a night since the accommodation is much cheaper than that in Gulangyu Island, in Tzengtsu you have got lots of choices for dinner as well.
