Baggage Instructions

  • I. Domestic routes (except Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) baggage information

    Carry-on Baggage:

    Each First Class passenger may carry two of their possessions; each Business Class and Economy Class passenger may carry one of their possessions.

    The weight of each carried item must not exceed 5kg (11 lbs.), and the volume must not exceed 20×40×55cm. The sum of three sides must not exceed 115cm.

    Each baggage item that exceeds the above weight, number of pieces or volume must be checked as checked baggage.

    Checked Baggage:

    When the weight concept applies, each piece of checked baggage should not exceed 50 kg in weight or 40 x 60 x 100 cm in size. Baggage exceeding these limitations can be checked only with the consent of Xiamen Airlines. Passengers are advised to attach their name, detailed address and phone number to each piece of checked baggage.

    Free baggage allowance:

    When the weight concept applies, the free baggage allowance for each passenger is 40 kg for each First Class passenger, 30 kg for each Business Class passenger, and 20 kg for each Economy Class passenger.

    Infants not occupying a seat do not qualify for a free baggage allowance. If a perambulator or cradle is needed, it should be checked in as checked baggage.

    Xiamen Airlines Egret Miles Premier members may enjoy the additional free baggage allowance when taking a proprietary flight of Xiamen Airlines. Gold members may enjoy an additional 30 kg, while silver members may enjoy an additional 20 kg of free baggage allowance. The total free baggage allowance of Egret Miles Premier members is the sum of the original cabin seat (or before upgrading) free baggage allowance and the additional free baggage allowance.

    Members of the SkyTeam Elite and Elite Plus may enjoy the additional free baggage allowance when taking a proprietary flight of Xiamen Airlines. The members of SkyTeam Elite may enjoy an additional 10 kg, and the members of Elite Plus may enjoy an additional 20 kg of free baggage allowance. If your membership is not available in the reservation system, you must present the SkyTeam Elite membership entity card and Elite Plus membership entity card when checking baggage.

    The additional free baggage allowance of SkyTeam Elite and Elite Plus will not be superposed when the additional free allowance of the Egret Miles Premier members are enjoying it.

    Overweight baggage fees:

    If the checked baggage of the passengers exceeds the portion of the free baggage allowance, the overweight baggage fees should be paid.

    The overweight baggage fee rate will be calculated at 1.5% per kilogram of the full fares of the Economy Class applicative on the day according to the overweight baggage ticket filled in. The total amount of the charge will be in CNY, with the mantissa rounded off.

  • II. The baggage allowance of the international and regional routes:

    Notes: The free baggage allowance for Economy Class passengers on flights originating in Singapore or Taiwan bound for Mainland China (applies to one-way, round-trip and connecting flights) is adjusted from 1 piece to 2 pieces, the total weight of which may not exceed 23 kg (50 lbs.) and the maximum dimensions of each piece (the sum of the three sides) may not exceed 158 cm (62 inches). The original baggage rules remain in effect for flights originating in Mainland China bound for Singapore or Taiwan. On all flights, the baggage rules for passengers in First Class and Business Class, for infants, overseas students, seamen and other passengers with special needs remain unchanged.

    The free baggage allowance for Economy Class passengers on flights between Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur and Sabah) and Mainland China, between Manila and Fujian (Xiamen and Quanzhou) is adjusted from 1 piece to 2 pieces, the total weight of which may not exceed 23 kg (50 lbs.) and the maximum dimensions of each piece (the sum of the three sides) may not exceed 158 cm (62 inches). The original baggage rules for passengers in First Class and Business Class, for infants, overseas students, seamen and other passengers with special needs remain unchanged.

    Notes:

    i. For economy class, the maximum permitted size for each piece of checked baggage is 158 cm / 62 inches (length + width + height); carry-ons, 115cm/45inches (length + width + height). Regarding the weight of each piece of checked baggage, the maximum weight per piece is 32 kg for First / Business Class passengers and 23 kg per piece for Economy Class passengers. For other special occasions, the free baggage allowance is subject to specific regulations.

    ii. The free baggage allowance for child/infant passengers who occupy a seat is the same as that for adult passengers in the same class of service.

    iii. In addition to the free baggage allowance of infant passengers not occupying a seat, passengers are also allowed to check in one folding stroller, free of charge. Unfolding baby carriages, cradles and child safety seats are only transported as checked baggage. Folding baby carriages that meet the size requirements for unchecked baggage can be freely brought into the cabin, but can only be transported freely as checked baggage when the specified storage in the cabin is insufficient.

    iv. The free baggage allowance and excess baggage charges for international and regional code-share flights are subject to the corresponding provisions in code-share agreements.

    v. If an interline ticket includes a domestic leg and an international leg, the free baggage allowance and excess baggage charges are subject to the standards for the international leg. If the whole itinerary on the tickets is operated by Xiamen Airlines, the free baggage allowance is subject to the standards that apply to the most significant leg. In accordance with relevant provisions of IATA Resolution 302, the free baggage allowance for international interline tickets, including legs operated by Xiamen Airlines and foreign airlines respectively (excluding segments from /to the United States of America and Canada), shall be subject to the standards published by the MSC (Most Significant Carrier) of the itinerary. Additionally, in accordance with relevant provisions of the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA), the free baggage allowance for international interline tickets, including legs operated by Xiamen Airlines and foreign airlines respectively, departing from/flying to the United States of America and Canada will be subject to the provisions of the First Marketing Carrier shown on the ticket.

    vi. In addition to the free baggage allowance, passengers who are Xiamen Airlines Egret Gold/Silver members, SkyTeam Elite Plus/Elite members are entitled to an additional piece of checked baggage free of charge with weight not exceeding 32 kg (for First Class and Business Class) or 23 kg (for Economy Class) and maximum dimensions not exceeding 158 cm (length + width + height).

    vii. For overseas students/laborers/seamen/immigrant passengers, 1 additional piece of checked baggage is added to the free baggage allowance based on the general standard, with weight not exceeding 32 kg (for First Class and Business Class) or 23 kg (for Economy Class) and maximum dimensions not exceeding 158 cm (length + width + height). This additional free baggage allowance must be applied for at the time of booking tickets and relevant documented evidence must be provided. The ticketing agents shall, in accordance with the regulations, attach copies of the passenger’s identification (seaman’s book, proof of overseas study, laborer’s work card, etc.), passport and visa to the back of the bill of the issuing date for reference. The sales stuff must inform such passengers that they are required to carry corresponding identification for future reference when checking in.

    viii. Additional free baggage allowances for passengers described in vi and vii above may not be accumulated. For example, if the passenger has a Gold/Silver card and is also an overseas student, their free baggage allowance is capped at 1 additional piece, based on the general standards for the corresponding class of service.

    ix. The baggage rules apply to tickets issued on or after January 1st, 2016.

    General Provisions for Carriage of Special Baggage on International and Regional Flights of Xiamen Airlines

    PrecisionInstruments and Appliances Articles (such as televisions, loudspeakers, washing machines, refrigerators,desktop PCs, etc.) should be transported as cargo. Such items may be transported as baggage only with the consent of Xiamen Airlines, with the original packaging or with packaging approved by Xiamen Airlines. (1) Shall not be included in the free baggage allowance.
    (2) Charges are calculated based on the actual number and weight of items and the rates specified in Xiamen Airlines Excess Baggage Charges on International and Regional Flights.
    Surfboards (1) Shall not be included in the free baggage allowance.
    (2) The perimeter of surfboards shall not exceed 300cm (118 inches)
    (3) Charges are calculated based on the actual number and weight of items and the rates specified in Xiamen Airlines Excess Baggage Charges on International and Regional Flights.
    Golf Equipment Refers to a golf bag, containing golf balls, golf clubs and a pair of golf shoes. (1)Will not count against the free baggage allowance.
    (2)Each passenger can check golf equipment weighing no more than 23kg measuring no more than 158cm (62 inches) length + width + height .
    (3) Oversized or overweight golf equipment is charged according to the actual number and weight of the items and the rates specified in Xiamen Airlines Excess Baggage Charges on International and Regional Flights.
    Skiing Equipment Includes a pair of skis, two ski poles or a pair of ski boots. (1) Will not count against the free baggage allowance.
    (2) Each passenger can check ski equipment weighing no more than 23kg measuring no more than 158 cm (62 inches) length + width + height.
    (3) Oversized or overweight ski equipment is charged according to the actual number and weight of items and the rates specified in Xiamen Airlines Excess Baggage Charges on International and Regional Flights.
    Bicycles 1. Can be stored in the cargo compartment and transported as baggage only.
    2. Only non-electric bicycles can be transported and tires must be deflated before transport.
    3. The handlebar of non-foldable bikes must be rotated 90 degrees and secured. The vehicle wheels must be removed and secured to the bike.
    (1) Items measuring no more than 158 cm (62 inches) length + width + height can be included in the free baggage allowance.
    (2) Oversized bikes are charged according to the actual number and weight of items and the rates specified in Xiamen Airlines Excess Baggage Charges on International and Regional Flights.
    Fishing Equipment Includes a tackle box, a creel (beam creel), a pair of fishing boots, two fishing rods and a dip net. (1) Will not count against the free baggage allowance.
    (2) Each passenger can check fishing equipment weighing no more than 23kg measuring no more than 158cm (62 inches) length + width + height.
    (3) Oversized or overweight fishing equipment is charged according to the actual number and weight of the items and the rates specified in Xiamen Airlines Excess Baggage Charges on International and Regional Flights.

    Note: Xiamen Airlines is only responsible for the above special baggage items, according to the general checked baggage policies (Warsaw or Montreal treaties and the relevant provisions of Xiamen Airlines conditions of carriage).

    Notes:

    i. Charges for extra pieces of baggage, overweight baggage and oversized baggage as shown above will be cumulative; on routes excluding a U.S. leg, the weight of a single piece of checked baggage must not exceed 32 kg, or on routes including a U.S. leg, the weight of a single piece of checked baggage must not exceed 45 kg.

    ii. The transportation of a single piece of checked baggage with weight exceeding 32 kg but less than 45 kg, or oversized baggage with dimensions exceeding 203 cm but less than 300 cm, requires prior approval from the Xiamen Airlines’ sales department in advance of the scheduled flight by filling out an application form, and such baggage can only be checked with prior approval from Xiamen Airlines.

    iii. The excess baggage charges for interline tickets are subject to the rules of free baggage allowance.

    iv. The rules for excess baggage apply to tickets issued on or after January 1st, 2016.

  • III. Checked Baggage

    Checked baggage refers to baggage that passengers deliver to Xiamen Airlines to handle and transport. When a passenger checks in at the airport counters, they deliver their checked baggage to the check-in staff. Passengers can collect their checked baggage at the flight destination by presenting their checked baggage tag.

    Passengers’ checked baggage must be securely packed, have intact locks and secure fittings and must be able to withstand handling procedures so as to be safely transported under normal operating conditions. The following conditions must be met:

    1. Suitcases, travelling bags and handbags, etc. must be locked;

    2. Two or more bags or packages may not be bundled together into one piece;

    3. Other items are not allowed to be attached to baggage;

    4. Baskets, string bags, straw ropes, straw bags and plastic bags, etc. cannot be used as the exterior covering of baggage.

    Special reminder: We neither provide nor accept child car seats in the cabin. Child car seats should be handled as checked baggage before boarding.

  • IV. Items That Cannot Be Transported as Baggage

    The following items shall not be checked as baggage or packed inside baggage (including checked baggage and carry-on baggage), and shall not be carried into the cabin:

    1. Hazardous items that endanger the safety of the aircraft or personnel and property on the aircraft according to the relevant national laws and regulations and the regulations of Xiamen Airlines;

    2. Firearms, ammunition, lighters and other types of dangerous weaponry, equipment and replicas, except special sporting equipment;

    3. Ordnance, police weapons and replicas;

    4. Controlled knives;

    5. Live animals, except those in line with the “Small Animal” provisions in the General Conditions of Domestic Carriage for Passengers and Baggage of Xiamen Airlines, and only guide dogs, hearing aid dogs, rescue dogs and other special dogs are permitted; pet category live animals are not accepted at this time;

    6. Other prohibited items prescribed by the Chinese government.

  • V. Items Restricted for Carriage

    The following items are not accepted for transport unless they meet the carrier’s transport conditions and are approved by the carrier:

    1. Important documents and materials, securities, cash, jewelry, precious metals and their products, antiques, calligraphy and paintings or other valuables, fragile and perishable items, samples, travel documents and other items requiring special care are not permitted to be checked as baggage or packed inside baggage. They may be carried into the cabin by passengers themselves in their own custody if those items do not exceed the weight and size limitations specified by Xiamen Airlines.

    2. Precision instruments, electrical appliances and similar items must be checked as cargo. If transported as checked baggage, they must meet Xiamen Airlines’ requirements for baggage packaging, size and weight. The weight of such items, however, shall not be counted in the free baggage allowance but shall be subject to excess baggage charges based on the actual weight;

    3. Sports equipment, including sports firearms and ammunition;

    4. Diplomatic pouches and confidential documents;

    5. Folding wheelchairs or electric wheelchairs to be used by passengers during the trip;

    6. Child restraint devices;

    7. Sharp tools and blunt tools other than controlled knives, such as kitchen knives, table knives, fruit knives, craft knives, scalpels, scissors and pencil sharpeners as well as steel files, awls, axes, cudgels, hammers, etc., shall be placed in checked baggage to be transported;

    8. Dry ice, drinks containing alcohol and smoking sets, drugs, cosmetics, etc.

  • VI. Small Animals

    Effective from August 1, 2013, Xiamen Airlines no longer accepts pet category live animals for transport, except guide dogs, hearing aid dogs, rescue dogs and other specially licensed dogs.

    1. Guide dogs and hearing aid dogs may be brought into the cabin for transport by visually/aurally disabled passengers when Xiamen Airlines’ conditions of carriage are met. Guide dogs and hearing aid dogs together with their containers and food are allowed to be transported free of charge and not counted in the free baggage allowance;

    2. Xiamen Airlines allows service dogs to accompany disabled passengers in flight;

    3. Disabled passengers shall provide Xiamen Airlines’ ground service department or ground service agent with service dog’s proof of identification (certification of service) and quarantine certifications;

    4. Service dogs brought into the cabin shall be leashed prior to boarding and shall not be allowed to occupy a seat or move around the cabin at will;

    5. Under normal circumstances, service dogs shall wear muzzles when entering the cabin, and the consent of passengers sitting within the service dog’s range of activity within the cabin must be obtained before the muzzle can be removed in flight;

    6. The disabled passenger shall be responsible for service dog’s urination or defecation in the cabin and shall ensure the service dog will not affect in-cabin sanitation;

    7. Unless blocking the aisle or emergency exit row, service dogs shall accompany the disabled passenger, and an alternate seat shall be provided to the disabled passenger if his or her seat cannot accommodate the service dog.

  • VII. Baggage compensation

    1. For the destruction, loss or damage of checked baggage, Xiamen Airlines will compensate the passenger or bear the cost of repairs based on the depreciated value of the baggage.

    2. The compensation amount of the checked baggage for domestic transportation is no more than RMB 100 per kilogram. If the actual loss of baggage is lower than this standard, the compensation will be paid based on the actual loss of baggage.

    3. Checked baggage for international (or Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao routes) transportation:

    a. As for the flights in accordance with the Warsaw Convention standard, the amount of baggage compensation is USD 20 per kilogram. If the actual loss of baggage is lower than this standard, compensation will be paid based on the actual loss of baggage.

    b. As for the flights in accordance with the conditions of the Montreal Convention, the baggage compensation is limited to USD 30 per kilogram (or equivalent foreign currency). If the actual loss of baggage is lower than this standard, compensation will be paid based on the actual loss of baggage. If the proper proof can be provided, the compensation for each passenger’s checked and unchecked baggage is limited to 1131 SDR*.

    4. The compensation weight shall be the maximum limit of the actual checked weight. If the weight of the baggage cannot be determined, the company will compensate according to the prescribed weight of the free baggage allowance of each passenger cabin in each class.

    *SDR refers to the special drawing rights prescribed by the International Monetary Fund. The value of SDR is approximately USD 1.37, and its exchange rate can vary up or down.

  • VIII. Baggage Declared Value

    In cases where the value per kg of checked baggage is more than CNY100 for domestic transport or more than USD 20 for international transport (including Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao flights), declared baggage value can be applied. Xiamen Airlines charges an additional fee for declared value. The declared value shall not exceed the actual value of the baggage itself. The maximum declared value per passenger is CNY 8,000 for domestic transportation and is USD 2,500 or its equivalent in foreign currency for international/regional flights. In the event that Xiamen Airlines does not agree with the declared value but the passenger refuses to go through baggage check, then Xiamen Airlines reserves the right to refuse to transport the baggage. If declared baggage is damaged or lost, Xiamen Airlines will compensate according to the declared value.
