Baggage Instructions

We adopt two types of free baggage allowances -- the piece concept and weight concept, which apply to different flights.



When the weight concept applies, the free baggage allowance for each passenger is: 40 kg for each First Class passenger, 30 kg for each Business Class passenger and 20 kg for each Economy Class passenger. Infant passengers do not qualify for a free baggage allowance.

For tickets issued on or after January1, 2016, the piece concept will be used on international and regional flights (including flights to/from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan).

Note: The free baggage allowance for Economy Class passengers on flights originating in Singapore or Taiwan bound for Mainland China (applies to one-way, round-trip and connecting flights) is adjusted from 1 piece to 2 pieces, the total weight of which may not exceed 23 kg (50 pounds) and the maximum dimensions of each piece (the sum of the three sides) may not exceed 158 centimeters (62 inches). The original baggage rules remain in effect for flights originating in Mainland China bound for Singapore or Taiwan. On all flights, the baggage rules for passengers in First Class and Business Class, for infants, overseas students, seamen and other passengers with special needs remain unchanged.

The free baggage allowance for Economy Class passengers on flights between Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur and Sabah) and Mainland China is adjusted from 1 piece to 2 pieces, the total weight of which may not exceed 23 kg (50 pounds) and the maximum dimensions of each piece (the sum of the three sides) may not exceed 158 centimeters (62 inches). The original baggage rules for passengers in First Class and Business Class, for infants, overseas students, seamen and other passengers with special needs remain unchanged.

Notes:

(A). For ordinary passengers, the maximum dimension for each piece of checked baggage is 158 cm / 62 inches (length + width + height); the maximum dimension for each piece of carry-on baggage is 55 x 25 x 35 cm / 21.5 x 13.5 x 10 inches (length x width x height). Regarding the weight of each piece of checked baggage, the maximum weight per piece is 32 kg for First / Business Class passengers and 23 kg per piece for Economy Class passengers; For other special occasions, the free baggage allowance is subject to specific regulations.
(B) The free baggage allowance for child/infant passengers who occupy a seat is the same as that for adult passengers in the same class of service.
(C) In addition to the free baggage allowance of infant passengers not occupying a seat,they are also allowed to check in one folding stroller, free of charge.
(D) The free baggage allowance and excess baggage charges for international and regional code-share flights are subject to the corresponding provisions in code-share agreements.
(E) If an interline ticket includes a domestic leg and an international leg, the free baggage allowance and excess baggage charges are subject to the standards for the international leg. If the whole itinerary on the tickets are operated by Xiamen Airlines, the free baggage allowance are subject to the standards that apply to the most significant leg. In accordance with relevant provisions of IATA Resolution 302, the free baggage allowance for an international interline tickets including legs operated by Xiamen Airlines and foreign airlines respectively(excluding segments from / to the United States of America and Canada) shall be subject to the standards published by the MSC (Most Significant Carrier) of the itinerary. Additionally, in accordance with relevant provisions of the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA), the free baggage allowance for an international interline tickets including legs operated by Xiamen Airlines and foreign airlines respectively, departing from / flying to the United States of America and Canada will be subject to the provisions of the First Marketing Carrier shown on the ticket.
(F) In addition to the free baggage allowance, passengers who are Xiamen Airlines Egret Gold / Silver members, SkyTeam Elite Plus / Elite members are entitled to an additional piece of checked-baggage free of charge with weight not exceeding 32 kg (for First Class and Business Class) or 23 kg (for Economy Class) and maximum dimensions not exceeding 158 cm (length + width +height).
(G) For overseas students / laborers / seamen / immigrant passengers , 1 additional piece of checked baggage is added to the free baggage allowance based on the general standard, with weight not exceeding 32 kg (for First Class and Business Class) or 23 kg (for Economy Class) and maximum dimensions not exceeding 158 cm (length + width +height). This additional free baggage allowance must be applied for at the time of booking tickets and relevant documented evidence must be provided; the sales stuff shall, in accordance with the regulations, attach copies of the passenger’s identification (seaman’s book, overseas study proof, laborer’s work card, etc.), passport and visa to the back of the bill of the issuing date for reference. The sales stuff must inform such passengers they are required to carry corresponding identification for future reference when checking in.
(H) Additional free baggage allowances for passengers described in paragraphs (F) and (G) may not be accumulated. For example, if the passenger has a Gold / Silver Card and is also an overseas student, his free baggage allowance is capped at 1 additional piece, based on the general standards for the corresponding class of service.
(I) The baggage rules apply to tickets issued on or after January 1st, 2016.


Free Carry-on Items

When the weight concept applies, the free baggage allowance is 2 carry-on items for each First Class passenger and 1 carry-on item for each Business Class or Economy Class passenger. Each piece of baggage carried into the cabin must not exceed 5 kg in weight or 20 x 40 x 55 cm in size. Carry-on items exceeding these weight, piece or size limits must be checked as checked baggage.
When the piece concept applies, the free baggage allowance is 2 carry-on items for each First Class passenger with the weight of each piece not exceeding 5kg(11lbs), and 1 carry-on item for each Business Class or Economy Class passenger with the weight not exceeding 5kg(11lbs). Each piece of baggage carried into the cabin must not exceed 55 x 35 x 25 cm / 21.5 x 13.5 x10 in size. Carry-on items exceeding these weight, piece or size limits must be checked as checked baggage.


Checked Baggage

Checked baggage refers to baggage that passengers deliver to Xiamen Airlines to take care of and transport. When you check in at airport counters, you deliver your checked-baggage to check-in staff. You can collect your checked baggage at the flight destination by presenting your checked baggage tag.
Your checked baggage must be securely packed, have intact locks and secure fittings and must be able to withstand handling procedures so as to be safely transported under normal operating conditions. The following conditions must be met:
1. Suitcases, travelling bags and handbags, etc. must be locked;
2. Two or more bags or packages may not be bundled together into one piece;
3. Other items are not allowed to be attached to baggage;
4. Baskets, string bags, straw ropes, straw bags and plastic bags, etc. cannot be used as the exterior covering of baggage.
When the weight concept applies,each piece of checked baggage shall not exceed 50 kg in weight or 40 x 60 x 100 cm in size. Baggage exceeding these limitations can be checked only with the consent of Xiamen Airlines. Passengers are advised to attach the passenger’s name, detailed address and phone number on each piece of checked baggage.
When the piece concept applies, 3 pieces of checked baggage with each weighing no more than 32 kg (70 lbs.) for First Class passengers; 2 pieces of checked baggage with each weighing no more than 32 kg (70 lbs.) for Business Class passengers. For passengers traveling in Economy Class between China and Europe, South Korea, Southeast Asia and between Mainland China and HongKong, Macao, Taiwan, 1 piece of checked baggage is allowed; for passengers traveling in Economy Class between China and Australia, Canada, the USA, Japan, 2 pieces of checked baggage are allowed. Please note that the maximum weight of each piece of checked baggage for Economy Class passenger is 23 kg (50 lbs.), while the maximum dimension for each piece of baggage (length + width + height) is 158 cm / 62 inches. The free checked baggage allowance for infant passengers not occupying a seat is one piece with weight not exceeding 10 kg (22 lbs) and maximum dimensions of 115 cm / 45 inches.


Excess Baggage Charges

With regard to the domestic flights where the weight concept applies, if the total weight of a passenger’s checked baggage and carry-on baggage exceeds the free baggage allowance, then excess baggage charges must be paid. The rate for these excess baggage charges is calculated per kgover the allowance based on 1.5% of the Economy Class full fare as of the date the excess baggage ticket is issued, with the total amount charged in CAD, rounded off to the nearest whole number.

Notes:


(A) Charges for extra pieces of baggage, overweight baggage and oversized baggage as shown above will be cumulative; on routes excluding a U.S. leg, the weight of a single piece of checked baggage must not exceed 32 kg, or on routes including a U.S. leg, the weight of a single piece of checked baggage must not exceed 45 kg.
(B) The transportation of a single piece of checked baggage with weight exceeding 32 kg but less than 45 kg, or oversized baggage with dimensions exceeding 203 cm but less than 300 cm requires communication with Xiamen Airlines’ sales department in advance of the scheduled flight by filling out an application form, and such baggage can only be checked with prior approval from Xiamen Airlines.
(C) The excess baggage charges for interline tickets are subject to the rules of free baggage allowance.
(D) The rules for excess baggage apply to tickets issued on or after January 1st, 2016.


Items That Cannot be Transported As Baggage

The following items shall not be checked as baggage or packed inside baggage (including checked-baggage and carry-on baggage), and shall not be carried into the cabin:
1. Hazardous items that endanger the safety of the aircraft or personnel and property on the aircraft according to the relevant national laws and regulations and the regulations of Xiamen Airlines;
2. Firearms, ammunition, lighters and other types of offensive weaponry, equipment and replicas, except special equipment for sports;
3. Ordnance, police weapons and replicas;
4. Controlled knives;
Live animals, except those in line with the “Small Animal” provisions in the General Conditions of Domestic Carriage for Passengers and Baggage of Xiamen Airlines., and only guide dogs, hearing-aid dogs, rescue dogs and other special dogs are permitted; pet-category live animals are not accepted at this time;
6. Other prohibited items prescribed by the Chinese government.


Items Restricted for Carriage

The following items are not accepted for transport unless they meet the carrier’s transport conditions and are approved by the carrier:
1. Important documents and materials, securities, cash, jewelry, precious metals and their products, antiques, calligraphy and paintings or other valuables, fragile and perishable items, samples, travel documents and other items requiring special care are not permitted to be checked as baggage or packed inside baggage.They may be carried into the cabin by passengers themselves in their own custody if those items do not exceed the weight and size limitations specified by Xiamen Airlines.
2. Precision instruments, electrical appliances and similar items must be checked as cargo. If transported as checked baggage, they must meet Xiamen Airlines’ requirements for baggage packaging, size and weight. The weight of such items, however, shall not be counted in the free baggage allowance but shall be subject to excess baggage charges based on the actual weight;
3. Sports equipment, including sports firearms and ammunition;
4. Diplomatic pouches and confidential documents;
5. Folding wheelchairs or electric wheelchairs to be used by passengers during the trip;
6. Child-restraint devices;
7. Sharp tools and blunt tools other than controlled knives, such as kitchen knives, table-knives, fruit knives, craft knives, scalpels, scissors and pencil sharpeners as well as steel files, awls, axes, cudgels, hammers, etc., shall be placed in checked baggage to be transported;
8. Dry ice, drinks containing alcohol and smoking sets, drugs, cosmetics etc.


Small Animal

Effective August 1, 2013, Xiamen Airlines no longer accepts pet-category live animals for transport, except guide dogs, hearing-aid dogs, rescue dogs and other specially licensed dogs.
1. Guide dogs and hearing-aid dogs may be brought into the cabin for transport by visually / aurally disabled passengers when Xiamen Airlines’ conditions of carriage are met. Guide dogs and hearing-aid dogs together with their containers and food are allowed to be transported free of charge and not counted in the free baggage allowance;
2. Xiamen Airlines allows service dogs to accompany disabled passengers in flight;
3. Disabled passengers shall provide Xiamen Airlines’ ground service department or ground service agent with service dogs’ proof of identification (certificate of service) and quarantine certificates;
4. Service dogs brought into the cabin shall be leashed prior to boarding, and shall not be allowed to occupy a seat or move around the cabin at will;
5. Under normal circumstances, service dogs shall wear muzzles when entering the cabin, and the consent of passengers sitting within the service dogs’ range of activity within the cabin must be obtained before the muzzle can be removed in flight;
6. The disabled passenger shall be responsible for service dogs’ urination or defecation in the cabin and shall ensure the service dog will not affect in-cabin sanitation;
7. Unless blocking the aisle or emergency exit row, service dogs shall accompany the disabled passenger, and an alternate seat shall be provided to the disabled passenger if his or her seat cannot accommodate the service dog.


Compensation for Baggage Loss or Damage

For the destruction, loss or damage of checked baggage, Xiamen Airlines will compensate the passenger or bear the cost of repairs based on the depreciated value of the baggage.Compensation amount for checked baggage is not more than CAD 20 per kg for domestic transport and not more than CAD 27 per kg for international transport (including Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao flights), and the weight used to calculate compensation shall not exceed the free baggage allowance.


Baggage Declared Value

In cases where the value per kg of checked baggage is more than CAD 20 for domestic transport or more than CAD 100 for international transport (including Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao flights), declared baggage value can be applied. Xiamen Airlines charges an additional fee for declared value. The declared value shall not exceed the actual value of the baggage itself. The maximum declared value per passenger is CAD 1,600 for domestic transportation and is CAD 3,500 or its equivalent in foreign currency for international / regional flights. In the event that Xiamen Airlines does not agree with the declared value but the passenger refuses to go through baggage check, then Xiamen Airlines reserves the right to refuse to transport the baggage. If a declared baggage is damaged or lost, Xiamen Airlines will compensate according to the declared value.
