China's Transit Visa Exemption Policy

Approved by the State Council, citizens with passports from 51 countries holding valid international travel documents and onward flight tickets with a confirmed seat to a third country (region) within 72 hours after arrival are allowed 72hour transit visa exemption via some selected Chinese airports.

Countries that qualify for the 72-hour visa-free transit policy (Total of 51 countries)

24 Schengen Agreement Countries: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.
13 Other European Countries: Russia, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Macedonia and Albania.
6 American Countries: the United States, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina and Chile.
2 Oceania Countries: Australia and New Zealand.
6 Asian Countries: South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Brunei, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar.

Requirements for the 72hour transit visa exemption policy

Passengers holding valid international travel documents and onward flight tickets with a confirmed seat to a third country (region) within 72 hours after arrival are allowed to stay in the designated Chinese city area for 72 hours without a Chinese visa.
1、Book onward ticket. Foreigners who are citizens of any of the 51 qualified countries must have a confirmed seat on an onward international flight before entering China.
2、Passengers are required to go to a different third country or region. The 72hour transit visa exemption policy applies to foreigners who are citizens of any of the 51 qualified countries,going to a third country or region after transiting via one of the Chinese airports approved by the Ministry of Public Security. It is very important to know that the policy requires an itinerary that departs from a country, transit via any of the approved visa-free transit airports in China and head to a different third country or region. For instance, passengers, who depart from Vancouver Canada, transit in Xiamen China and return to Toronto Canada , are not applicable to the 72hour transit visa exemption policy.
